BOX Theater

Fall 2016 | M.Arch | Ottawa, CA

This design project is sited within Ottawa's Fletcher Wildlife Gardens and is a small community black box theater and outdoor amphitheater space.  Completed during the first semester of the Masters Program within the Azrieli School of Architecture & Urbanism, this second project drew inspiration from the studio's initial Spatial Catalogue project.

Special attention was paid to spatial conditioning via proportioning, materiality and day-lighting. Moreover, there was a conceptual notion of permeability integrated within the design as response to preliminary site analysis. The above concept sketch illustrates the use of thick heavy materiality versus permeable ephemeral gestures to create and distinguish unique zones.
